The Groton Police Department takes an active roll in the safety and enjoyment
of summer boating on lost lake, Knops Pond, and the Nashua River.

Officers utilize a marked 18 foot Boston Whaler Police Boat to make two man
patrols of the Lost lake and Knops Pond water ways, between late May and September. Some duties of the officers while on patrol are to ensure that boaters are operating their watercraft in a safe and responsible manor. Patrols are also responsible to ensure that proper head way speeds are enforced where posted and applicable.

Officers make safety checks to ensure that each water craft have all of its mandated US Coast Guard safety equipment.

A Kawasaki STX 1100 Jet Ski is also used in coordination with the two man boat patrol on Lost lake, and a single man patrol on the Nashua River.
